Preparation Steps

  • Whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together in a large bowl until fully combined.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Cover the dough and chill for at least 2 hours, or up to 72 hours, for the best texture and flavor.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Scoop dough into balls (about 3 tablespoons each) and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared sheets.
  • Bake for 10 to 13 minutes. The edges should look set and golden, but the centers should still look slightly underbaked and soft.
  • Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Using melted butter helps create a chewier texture compared to softened butter. Chilling the dough is crucial; it prevents spreading and deepens the flavor. For thicker cookies, use a cookie scoop and slightly underbake them. If you prefer a slightly crispier edge, use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour.
