Ingredients
  

Fruits

  • 4 pieces Bartlett pears About 1.5–2 pounds, stems removed and sliced
  • 1 piece Gala apple Stem removed and sliced
  • 1 piece Navel orange Peeled and cut into wedges

Spices

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Liquid

  • 6 cups water

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Add sliced pears, sliced apple, orange wedges, ground cinnamon, whole cloves, ground nutmeg, and water to a large pot or Dutch oven.
  • Stir gently to ensure fruit is mostly submerged.

Cooking

  • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and let it bubble for about 60 minutes until the fruit is soft.
  • Mash the fruit gently in the pot with a potato masher to release juices.
  • Let the pot cool slightly, then strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher.

Serving

  • Consider leaving a cinnamon stick in each mug for presentation and extra flavor.
  • Serve warm or chill and serve over ice.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days. Simmer to reheat or chill to serve over ice. You can freeze in ice cube trays for longer storage. Adjust sweetness with honey or maple syrup if necessary.
